18 Month Well Check-Up

We went for David's well check up with Dr. Deitchman today. You don't have to go at 18 months, but I kept the apppointment due to the really dry skin/rash David has been experiencing over the last few weeks. Turns out he has eczema. So, we got some powerful cream to see if it would help... poor baby, he scratches all the time! I know it is common for kids to get eczema, so I welcome any suggestions from moms who might have some tricks up their sleave to make it easier. Here are some stats about David at 18 months:

Weight: 26lbs. (50%)
Height: 33 in. (75%)
Has started talking in 3 word sentences.
LOVES, loves, loves The Wiggles.
Really enjoys outside and digging in dirt.
Still loves to say his prayers (and more than once if he isn't wild about what he is eating or reading).

He is at a really fun age. He has started the tantrums on some days and can be very defiante as well. I guess it comes with the life of an almost 2 year old!

The "my" is only had in the crib and car. He says "bye, bye my" every morning when we get him up. I guess we'll work on breaking it completely later!

Dani, I had eczema in high school..also didn't realize for a while what it was. The doctor gave me some kind of cream and it hasn't bothered me at all since; hopefully it'll work for David. It's such a pain! Love ya'll and miss you!

    Dani,

Hope David's feeling better! Drew has eczema, as well. We've found that Aveeno shampoos and lotions for kids that don't have any fragrances work well for not irritating his skin. His eczema tends to flare up with colds, so when that happens we usually use a cream (either prescription or over the counter-right now I'm trying Eucerin calming creme) and then put Aquaphor on top. I've even tried peanut butter because I've heard peanut oil is good for dry skin!

Madeline used to get it pretty bad and we cut out peanuts and she hasn't had a flare up in 3 years.
    We can talk sunday.

    David is precious as always!!!!

Claudia gets it on occassion and we have found that the Aveeno products specifically for Eczema work well. We stay away from most products with any sort of fragrance. Also, if you can cut back to bathing him every other day to keep from drying the skin out. That is a little tough at this age becasue they get so dirty. But it does help. Also, our ped recommended using the prescription cream only when she has a bad flare, as over use can actually exacerbate the symptoms.

    Hope it will clear soon!

So cute... My Karoline is about 24.5 lbs!!! Isn't that crazy. She has really slowed down eating so I think she will slow down growing. I just love Davids hair!! Glad things are going well!

This is Katharine. I "stalk" your blog through Elizabeth's. Our son, Reeves, has eczema as well, and we treat it with a prescription hydrocortisone cream for bad spot flare ups, but for everyday moisturizing, we use Cetaphil cream. (Not lotion, as lotion is mostly water and quickly evaporates.) However, you may check to be sure he isn't allergic to anything. Reeves' eczema definitely flares up more if he has been exposed to milk or eggs, two things to which we know he is allergic. Take him to a dermatologist or allergist if it persists or gets worse.
Sorry for the long comment!! Just wanted to share what we have learned.
