David at One Year

Height: 31 inches (75%)
Weight: 21.4 lbs. (25%)
Words he can say: "mama", "dada", "bye-bye", and a LOT of babbling with inflection!
Favorite foods: broccoli, potatoes, peas, avacado, banana, spinach nuggets, yogurt, cheese... honestly the list could go on and on. He has quite an appetite!
Favorite toys: balls, trucks, blocks, musical instruments, and his walking toy. David plays very well by himself on most days.
Favorite books: "Oh, David!", "Oops", "Goodnight Moon", "Tractors", "Farm". David now likes to read them by himself... he points to the pictures and says "dis" over and over. It is very fun to watch him read!
David's personality: David remains somewhat serious, but can be very giggly (see below) and he loves to give and receive kisses. He still doesn't cuddle much and when its time to go to bed, he would rather you put him straight in his crib with some books to read than rock with you... he is growing up so fast! He is very curious and will sit with a toy (like his shape sorter) and play until he gets all the blocks in the bucket correctly. He doesn't walk alone yet, but his confidence is growing daily in the balance department. He absolutely loves music and is looking forward to starting "school" next week because they promised him they would sing every morning. God has truly blessed us with a precious child and we are so thankful for the joy he brings us everyday!

David's First Birthday!

David had a wonderful first birthday! We invited just a few of his little friends over for a cookout and cake. David had a lot of fun and it was no surprise that the birthday song and the candle on his cake were the highlights of the night!!!

I loved David's cakes... we have an incredible bakery in the DFW area that makes the most amazing cakes and are quite affordable too!

David's smash cake was perfect!

After everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to David, Ava was standing close by to blow out the candle... she was very excited to help. After that she even sampled the icing a bit by getting a finger full!!!

David played with Bailey who is just 3 weeks older than he is... I love that they are friends!

David ended the night well with a special birthday kiss from his friend Carter... one day he will not turn his head!

Thanks to all our family and friends who wished David a happy birthday! Each of you are very special to us!

One year ago today...

... we were PRAYING that you would arrive soon. I had a 9:00 appointment with Dr. Mendez and since we were so hopeful, your dad and I had the car packed with all the suitcases. We did not want to go back home without you! Sure enough by the time I got to the doctors office I was at 4 cm and he felt it was o.k. to send me over and break my water so we could get the show on the road. YEAH! You were finally going to come! The first thing I told the nurses was that I wanted an epidural as soon as possible and the rest of the day went something like this... Dr. Mendez broke my water at around 10 am, I got the epidural at 10:20 (after feeling only a few small contractions), a few hours and 4 pushes later and you were born at 4:33! You weighed 7 lbs. 7 ozs. and were 20 inches long. Our life hasn't been the same since and you are truly a joy everyday! You were the best newborn baby, sleeping very well and once we switched to formula you became (and remain) a little pig. You have a somewhat serious disposition but always offer a flirtatous smile. I can't believe how much you have grown! Just take a look...

The day before you were born, I was about to POP!

On the way home from the hospital.

What a sweet baby!

Sleeping in your crib.

You loved your exersaucer!

Bath time!

Talking to daddy, there is nothing better than your sweet voice!

There is the flirtatous smile.

One of my favorite pictures of you!

Are you hiding something?

Wearing daddy's hat.

What a charmer!

Ummm, that sure tastes good!

You love to play outside,

and you love to chase us around the house!

And now you're about to start walking. I can't believe how big you are. We love you so much! HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY BABY BOY!!!

Special Weekend

This past weekend David had some special visitors. His great grandmother and his Mimi came to visit. Trey's grandmother turned 80 this past July and for her birthday, Mimi decided she needed to take her first airplane ride... to TEXAS! We had a great time and were so happy to have family out to visit. Thanks for making the long trip Greatmama and Mimi!

As soon as their flight landed we went out to eat. Sadly, David began running a fever during dinner. It lasted most of the weekend, but he was still a great host!

"Greatmama" brought David an early birthday present since his birthday is only a few days away. He really enjoyed taking the gift out of the bag... thanks for the shark PJ's Greatmama and Papa Whittle!

"Just what I needed... now let me play with the tag!"

On Saturday we went shopping so David could get some new shoes. Greatmama sat and entertained David with a balloon.

Greatmama liked watching the B.E.'s video with David when he felt bad. David's favorite is the farm!

David's great aunt Janet sent money so Mimi could pick out a birthday present from her... at cousin Claudia's suggestion he got a drum set that included a lot of other instruments. He LOVES it!!! He has been "playing music" all week!

"This is great... what else is in here???"

While Mimi and Greatmama were here we also had a small cake to celebrate an early birthday with David. He liked the song, candle...

... and of course he LOVED the cake! He had it everywhere!
